Married 10 years and still going strong
Today is my 10th wedding anniversary. In honor of this momentous event in my marriage, I’ve compiled a list of 10 things I never imagined I’d be able to say about my life 10 years ago:
- I have three kids. Three kids? Are you kidding me?
- I weigh approximately 20 pounds less now than I weighed 10 years ago. And I have three kids.
- I can pretty much predict what my husband is thinking from the look on his face approximately 80% of the time. I have a harder time predicting what he is thinking if I’m talking to him on the phone or over instant messenger.
- I can bake. I baked a cheesecake last night. I’m still learning how to cook new things, and I actually enjoy it. I’m also pretty good at it (most of the time).
- I still can’t cook my husband’s favorite meal: Boeuf Bourguignon. His mom died a few years ago, so now no one makes it for him. That makes me sad. I have gotten better at making mashed potatoes, though.
- I’m not a stay-at-home mom. I always thought I would be. My kids are in daycare, and they like it. And I like it. We are all surpisingly happy.
- I enjoy talking to my husband about soccer and web industry chatter. He also actually got me to coach my daughter’s soccer team. The jury is still out on whether or not I’m any good at it.
- I am usually on time for everything. Actually, I’m usually early. This probably surprises my husband more than it surprises me. He has trained me well.
- My husband still likes me. A lot. He still finds me interesting and attractive. I hope that will last another 10 years. It would be amazing if he still finds me interesting and attractive in 40 years, even if I don’t have any teeth and can’t remember where I put the false ones.
- I love my husband more now that I did 10 years ago. I know him a lot better and I love him so much more. I hope I can say exactly the same thing in 40 years.
