Must be about time to go home

You know you’ve over-done it at work when you leave to go home after working an 11-hour day and you fall flat on your face as you step off the sidewalk.

There was no hole in the sidewalk, no animal scurrying by, not even high heels to throw me off balance. I simply stepped off the curb and fell flat on my face.

Actually, I fell on my left elbow, my left knee, my right hand, and (strangely enough) the top part of my right ankle and leg. I’m not sure how you fall on the part of your foot that doesn’t actually stick out, but somehow, I scraped all the skin off the top part of my right ankle.

These battle scars serve as a painful reminder that I’m the only remaining person in the public relations office at Ouachita.

Now, I’m treading on dangerous ground here. I know the horror stories about people who blog about stuff from work and get fired, or “Dooced,” by employers who are afraid of the Internet. Let’s just say I’m not stupid enough to write about anything that could actually get me fired…I don’t think so, anyway.

I fell off the sidewalk because I was tired. I arrived at work at 6:30 a.m. for a photo shoot and left a little after 5:30 p.m. with way too much stuff still left on my desk and in my inbox. Being a bit of a perfectionist, I get frustrated when I have to leave things in my inbox. I like to tackle it as quickly as possible, to avoid the horror of actually not being able to mark something off my to-do list.

Since my boss quit to take a job in another department a few months ago, I’ve been working her job and mine. I’m tired. When I get tired, I fall down. Hopefully, I’ll be able to stand back up and walk straight again soon.
