Not the momma!

Phillip’s language skills have exploded in the past 2 weeks. Lannie is convinced that it’s because he has been home with Caleb and Ellie for Christmas holidays, and he has been saturated with language (mostly from Ellie).

One of the cutest and most infuriating habits of speech that he’s picked up is to refer to himself as “Baby.” For example, he will say “Baby Mil!” for “Give me my milk!” or “Baby head!” for “I hit my head.” Anytime he wants me to give him anything that he does not know how to say, he will point at it, then point to himself and say, “Baby!”

It’s a really impressive vocabulary for a 15-month-old, but Lannie is highly irritated that we’ve all called Phillip”the Baby” so often that he now thinks that’s his name. We are now under strict instructions to call him “Phillip” and never “the Baby!” It seems to be working, sort of. Yesterday, after I repeatedly referred to him as “Phil-lip” and pointed to him each time I said it, he pointed at himself and said “fffff–lllll.” But about 10 seconds later, he dropped his doggie and pointed at it said, “Baby Doooog!”
