Wha-huh?

Ellie sincerely wants to help me cook dinner every night, and if I were a good mother, I would lovingly teach her to measure, stir and (her biggest wish) break eggs. However, I am in dire need of patience and I’m usually trying to beat two world’s records simultaneously (Fastest Dinner Cooked from Beginning to End and Preparing Dinner While Moving Around a Kitchen with a Baby Attached to Your Leg). Needless to say, I don’t win the Good Mom of the Year Award for teaching my six-year-old how to cook.

Several days ago, she told me that I made the World’s Best Macaroni and Cheese and asked me if I would give her the recipe when she grows up. Lannie assured her that she would be given the recipe, knowing full well that the recipe is the Big Blue Box of Kraft.

Then she pointed to my recipe books in the kitchen and said, “Mama, you’ll have to hide those books when I learn how to read.” Wha-huh? “I might come in here and make something if I know how to read the recipe.”

  1. That’s funny…I made “real” mac n cheese over here to Elam’s horror (the rest of us found it quite tasty). We had to have several “blue boxes” shipped over and stashed in grandparents’ suitcases.

  2. Yes, I remember you talking about how sad Elam was to not be able to find Blue Box macaroni in England.

I will admit, I do make it from scratch sometimes, and it is better. The kids like the powder mix, though!
