Hopefully, he will soon adopt a living role model

Phillip has discovered Blue’s Clues. While it has done wonders for his vocabulary, I’m afraid he is confused by cartoon animated inanimate objects.

His favorite character is “Mailbox.” Mailbox is the quirky, wise-cracking character with the New Jersey accent that announces his arrival by singing “Mail Time” and brings a letter from our friends every day. I wish we really got a letter from our friends every day and not a letter from our pretend friends at Visa who don’t know us well enough to know that my husband isn’t “Miss Lannie Bryd.”

Phillip’s favorite new phrase is “C’mon, Mailbox. Mail time.” Which he repeats constantly for the first 15 minutes of the show until Mailbox makes an appearance. Unless we remember that we have it on DVR and skip ahead until we get to Mail Time.

Lannie discovered just how much Phillip admires Mail Box a few days ago when he was asking Caleb and Ellie what they wanted to be when they grew up. Caleb thinks he might want to be a writer, or maybe a zookeeper, and Ellie wants to be a cheerleader. Then Lannie turned to Phillip to ask what he wants to be when he grows up, and Phillip answered, “Mailbox!” Lannie thought it was so funny that he asked him again. And again the next day. Phillip’s answer is still, “Mailbox!” Why not? He lives outside. He has visitors. Sometimes he gets hit by a car or an occasional raw egg, but there are worse role models. Britney Spears, for example.
