Dogpiled by kids sports

Our lives have become bulldozed by baseball, swimming and gymnastics. I’m not sure how we’ll manage when Phillip gets his own activities, but he’ll just have to wait until Caleb can drive. How far behind will he be if he waits until he’s 12 to play competitive sports?

Caleb is living at the baseball field. I plan to pitch a tent this evening and set him up with a little cooler full of food and water. I’ll even give him a little money so he can refill it at the concession stand.

He is playing double-headers every Tuesday and Friday through the end of this month. Seriously. And he goes to swim practice every other night of the week. He is eight. Not a professional athlete.

I justify it by telling myself that I’m doing my part to make sure my child is not a couch potato. He’s not a casualty of the American childhood obesity epidemic. Unfortuately, our laundry pile is a casualty of the Arkadelphia competitive sports epidemic. It was especially a pain when he had games one Friday night and again Saturday morning. We actually had to WASH HIS UNIFORM after the game on Friday night. Lannie had to move clothes from the washer to the dryer. It was bad.
