True Repentance

Phillip has been learning to say, “I’m sorry,” for a while now, and he has a little routine that he always goes through when he apologizes. He has to give you a hug and lay his head on your shoulder when he tells you he’s sorry. He insisted on doing this to Caleb at Taco Bell tonight after he had tried to stab Caleb with his spork. Caleb did not appreciate the saucy taco meat on Phillip’s hands and face when he got his apology hug.

Another thing that we’ve noticed about Phillip’s apologies is that they are always sincere. He never apologizes unless he means it. He will frequently stall his apology for 10-15 minutes until he realizes he is wrong and sees the need to apologize. Unlike the other kids, who will mumble an angry, “sorry!” at each other, Phillip saves his sorry for the real thing.
