Language Development
Phillip frequently brings home new words and ideas from daycare. Many of those new words are in Spanish. His teachers have taught him some of the concepts, like numbers and colors, but some of the Spanish words are from Natalie, his bilingual friend.
This weekend he was playing with my gold necklace, and he kept calling it “Dorado.” I praised him and told Lannie that “Dorado” is gold in Spanish. For the life of us, though, we couldn’t get him to do it again. Lannie asked him five or six times, “How do you say ‘gold’ in Spanish?” Phillip’s only reply was “Gold in Spanish.”
