My spot

Phillip has picked up a new habit of claiming specific seats in the apartment as “MY SPOT” (spoken in ALL CAPS). I’m pretty sure this is typical toddler behavior, although it may be another glimpse at his future as a dictator. The problem is that his “spot” changes frequently, so even if we wanted to give him a permanent place on the sofa, none of us are exactly sure where that place will be tomorrow. Imagine the grouchy old man who yells at visitors in church for sitting in his pew– only he constantly forgets which pew is his.

I was reminded, however, that my youngest son is a charming mixture of tyranny and tenderness when I put him to bed last night. He pulled me into a hug, laid his head on my chest, and said, “My spot.”
