They grow up so fast

Phillip sat me down and very seriously said, “Mom, I have to tell you something.”
“Yes?” I answered.
“Today, I’m going to college.”
“Really?” I asked.
“Yes, and you’re going with me! And I’m going to drive.”
“That’s great!” I said.
“Right after you put me up there on the potty so I can poop.”

Homeschooling provides a wealth of material for this blog

Elizabeth asked Caleb for help with her geography lesson today. The topic was “community helpers.”
Elizabeth: I have to write a sentence about what my mom does. What does mom do? Is she a teacher?Caleb: No, she’s a homewrecker.Me: Do you mean homemaker?Caleb: Yeah. Or you could say [...]

You might be a member of a modern church if…

Today, I was helping Elizabeth with her Bible story lesson, when I noticed she had left one of the items from her assignment blank. She was supposed to pick out ways to be a good helper in church out of a provided list. One of the items she left blank was “help a [...]

That’s what they get for putting the TV on the curb

Our next-door-neighbor set an old television set on the curb today, which greatly confused Phillip. She also set out the remote control, which confused him even more.

Lannie and I set up the slip and slide and the [...]

Add "blog" to her expanding vocabulary

We visited Lannie’s family in Memphis this week, and we spent a very hot afternoon at the Memphis zoo. While we generally enjoy the Memphis zoo, especially the pandas and the new polar bear exhibit, the near-100 degree temperature forced us to scoot from inside exhibit to inside exhibit looking for air conditioning. We brought [...]

Love pats

Ellie and Phillip were sitting at the dinner table last night when Ellie reached over and patted Phillip on the back. Phillip immediately screamed, “Spank! Don’t Spank!” No, no, we assured him, that’s just a “love pat.” Phillip reached over and hit Ellie as hard as he could on the back and said “LOVE PAT!” [...]

Better than Les Mis

I should add to my last post that watching Phillip play is anything but boring. This afternoon we observed the full gamut of his imagination as he played with his plastic giraffe and elephant. He picked up the animals and pretended that the giraffe was “roaring” then set them down, screamed, and ran to the [...]
